modding: adding 3G to my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet

Its been about a week or so with my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (TPT) and I must say that I am digging it.  The Pen/Stylus works pretty decent minus the lack of apps and Honeycomb is a nice upgrade from using Gingerbread on my previous Android tablet (Galaxy Tab).  However, one thing that I really missed on my ThinkPad Tablet when traveling was built-in 3G data.  I still believe that mobile internet on tablets is still the killer app.  Today, we'll take a look at the guts of my ThinkPad Tablet and how one can add a 3G to it.  Keep reading for the photos, notes and links!

quick look: Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (Honeycomb) and Pen (pics)

I love Fedex; they make almost every week feel like Christmas week. Today I finally received my back-ordered Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet and Pen. This is my first Honeycomb tablet and I'm very excited to see how it compares to the iPad, Playbook and Gingerbread tablets I've used previously. Keep reading for the geek pr0n (including comparison pics next to an iPad 2 and Playbook).

thoughts on Nintendo... from a core gamer perspective

Well, today there won't be any pretty gadget pics or snaps.  This last week, I just sold my Nintendo 3DS and realized that at the moment I have ZERO interest in the Wii U.  Thus this post, my current thoughts on Nintendo from a core gamer viewpoint.

unboxing: LG G2x (my first dual core phone)

Well, this week has been quite the gadget week for me.  A few weeks back I purchased a used T-Mobile HTC G2 Android slider on eBay and after using for a few weeks decided that the slider format just wasn't for me (at least not when it comes to Android phones, Blackberry phones thats a whole different story).  Being the hardware geek that I am, I realized I wanted a phone that had the fastest CPU and possibly a dual core cpu.  Thus leading to my new purchase of an LG G2x Android phone.  Keep reading for the unboxing and photos.

geek experiment: Blackberry 9780 for 30 days

Well, it has been a while since my last post so I thought today I'd write out a little smartphone experiment I've been working on.  I pride myself on being in the 'know' on all relevant smartphone OS and in turn realized I was falling out of the Blackberry world and thought I'd better bring my skills up to now.  Keep reading for the my thoughts on using JUST my Blackberry Bold 9780 (T-Mobile) for 30 days.  I even added a Playbook to the mix to really shake things up. ;)

If your a geek, you probably have cord management issues. I know I do and finally have come up with a pretty decent solution.  Today's post will give an example of how I deal with cord management in my living room.

Unboxing: Blackberry Playbook (pics)

As a gadget freak, I don't discriminate against tablets even if they don't have any fruit logos or little green robots on them.  Here's a quick post of my unboxing shots of the new Blackberry Playbook (64GB). Some pics of unboxing were taken with a Blackberry 9780 so not as good as some taken with my S95.  More details and a review to come after a week of using. Enjoy!

Tablets: My three lessons to the industry on launching

2011 has really started to shape up as the official year of the 'other' tablets.  Last year (2010) we saw a limited release of Android tablets however they were running standard smartphone Android OS versions that were in turn tweaked for the tablet interface (ie Galaxy Tab running on Froyo 2.3 with Samsung's Touchwiz launcher/overlay, Nook tablet running 2.2/2.3 and a tablet skin).  However this year we saw the first of the real, Honeycomb (Android 3.x OS for Tablets) tablets and all the rest of the non Apple tablets.  Today, I plan to outline a few guidelines that I think Android tablet makers need to address before they even attempt to launch a tablet.

Back to it! (quickie)

It has been WAY too long since I've last blogged and I apologize for that. I have been pretty busy with my real job and also buying a condo.  However, things are back under control and I'm back in my tech groove.  I just wanted to apologize for the lack of updates recently and will be continuing my once a week posting (most likely on Sundays) of current technology and trends and of course my .02 on them.

See you tomorrow for a post on Android tablets and what not to do when launching one.

Launch Night: My Quick Nintendo 3DS Unboxing

So I stopped by my local Best Buy and picked up my Nintendo 3DS pre-order.  I haven't even gotten a chance to play with it but can tell already the hardware is much improved over the DS Lite I had previously owned. Keep reading for the full gallery of shots. :)

the pros and cons of being an early adopter

Well, as my blog title mentions, I am an early adopter of hardware, services and software.  Actually now that I think of it, all of us here at Tech-Recipes.com are early adopters in one sense or the other.  Being in this sect has its benefits but also its negatives too.  Keep reading for some of the ins and outs us early adopters face.

NFC, QRCodes and the Skyway system

Today's post will just be a quick overview of a Near Field Communication based project I have been brainstorming on but can't get the resources to do it.  I figure I'd at least put my idea out there for anyone that may have the resources to try taking a stab at (or you could hire me on as a designer).  Here's a link to my Springpad shared folder on NFC related notes.

Today's post will be a quick overview of my own personal man cave / HTPC setup I run in case any readers ever wondered.  I figure it may give a little more substance to my cable tv rants since I'm usually at the forefront of DVR/HTPC technology and trends and also some ideas on what you can do with Media Center and your PC.

Windows Phone 7 (WP7); where ya at?

Title says it all. So where is Windows Phone 7? We have yet to see any announcements in regards to Microsoft porting WP7 to a more tablet friendly device and yet to see the first update to fix some major (in my opinion) bugs and missing features.

My iPad2 wishes...

The iPad 2 is an inevitable beast.  Apple hit a home run with the original iPad, already selling over 8 million units (my estimate of 750k in first week was pretty close, 500k were sold in first week).  So what will Apple followup in with the iPad 2?  I'll outline a few things I hope to see after owning the original iPad and a Galaxy Tab.

AT&T Galaxy Tab, my breakdown

Well, I have now had my Galaxy Tab for about 2 weeks and thought I'd write up a quick post on my thoughts on it.  Being a previous iPad owner, I can tell you that they two devices are similar but not.  Lets get to it!
